Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015 from 1st October 2022.

There are new regulations to amend The Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015 that will come into force from 1st October 2022.

The Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (Amendment) Regulations 2022 must;

  • Ensure at least one smoke alarm is equipped on each storey of their homes where there is a room used as living accommodation.
  • Ensure a carbon monoxide alarm is equipped in any room used as living accommodation which contains a fixed combustion appliance (excluding gas cookers).
  • Ensure smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms are repaired or replaced once informed and found that they are faulty.

Should the above not be followed, local authorities can impose a fine of up to £5,000.00

What to do next?

If your property is managed by Hammond Properties, that unless we are advised otherwise, we will be making sure that your property is in accordance with the new regulations and install any additional smoke or carbon monoxide alarms where needed. We ensure that all current smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are tested and in full working order every six months at our inspections and will replace any defective alarms immediately.
