How to Guides in England updated and reissued

The Government have updated How to Guides in England and reissued them in July 2018.
Landlords are advised to provide their tenants with the current updated How to Rent guide, as the title has changed from the previous version which was published on 26th June and also issue the current version when commencing a new tenancy agreement.

Changes to How to Rent include:

• Cover page – has been amended and the subtitle of the document is now ‘The checklist for renting in England’, which reflects the wording in the Assured Shorthold Tenancy Notices and Prescribed Requirements (England) Regulations 2015.
• At the bottom of page 6, it states the landlord ‘should provide a record of any electrical inspections’ as opposed to ‘must’ in the previous version.

Changes to How to Rent a Safe Home include:

• The box at the bottom of page 4 now reads: ‘If you smell gas or suspect a carbon monoxide leak’.

Changes to How to Let include:

• At the bottom of page 3 in the checklist box the final bullet is being updated to refer to carbon monoxide as opposed to carbon dioxide alarms
